Pilotfish is an award-winning design and innovation consultancy with offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Lisbon, and Taipei. With “We humanise technology” as the brand’s corporate vision, they value usability and user experience in product design. In order to create products that meet the customer’s needs and to keep up with the fast-paced market, Pilotfish utilises their FLUX Beambox Pro laser cutter and engraver to accelerate the product design process and provide customers with more efficient and high-quality products and services.

Since its founding in 2001, Pilotfish has experienced many major market changes. Marco Heusdens, the Managing Director of the Taiwan Office, emphasised that Pilotfish is one of the few product design companies that passed ISO 9001 certification. Not only do they design aesthetic products and ensure that every product is relevant, Pilotfish also guarantees the usability verification and production feasibility of their products.
To achieve that goal, Pilotfish partnered with FLUX and the Beambox Pro laser cutter as an excellent digital crafting tool in the development process.

With the laser cutter’s desktop size and user-friendly laser cutting software Beam Studio, the machine helps in Pilotfish’s pursuit of efficiency, and rapid prototyping and testing. They use the FLUX laser cutter to cut acrylic, PET, double-sided tape, EVA foam, silicone rubber, accessories, and other materials.

Pilotfish also uses their laser cutter in developing cardboard packaging materials to verify complex flat and three-dimensional structures, allowing designers and engineers to evaluate the manufacturing process and the feasibility of assembly while developing the products.

They even use the laser cutting machine to design waterproof products. Since a large amount of silicone rubber is used during product development, it would take time and money to outsource the cutting process. However, they can verify their designs internally by using Beambox Pro, which allows them to focus on innovative design and providing customers with better services.
